Most boats on trailers don't fit inside a standard storage unit — they're too long, too tall, or both. That's why StorageMania runs a dedicated covered boat yard alongside our indoor units. Your boat gets proper shelter and 24/7 guarded security; your outboards, kayaks, SUPs, and gear go indoors under your own lock.
Covered Boat Yard — R1,500/month
Our primary offering for boat owners. A dedicated outdoor area with overhead cover, perimeter fencing, and the same 24/7 armed guards and HD CCTV as the rest of the facility. Park your trailered boat, hitch off, and go — or come back anytime during facility hours to take it out on the water.
Best for:
- Ski boats, bass boats, and fishing boats on trailers
- Cabin cruisers that have been winter-stored elsewhere
- Yachts and sailboats on road trailers (up to standard trailer dimensions)
- Anyone whose body corporate or HOA doesn't allow boat trailers on the property
- Homeowners tired of the boat eating up a full parking bay at home
Overhead protection from Cape Town sun and rain, not a fully enclosed shed. The boat yard is secured within our guarded perimeter, under CCTV, with drive-up access.
In-Unit Marine Equipment Storage
Outboard motors, paddleboards, kayaks, and gear don't belong out in the weather — they go indoors. Our standard storage units are perfect for anything that doesn't sit on a trailer.
What Goes Where — A Quick Sorting Guide
Trailered boats → Covered Boat Yard
If your boat lives on a trailer, that's where it stays. Our covered yard is purpose-built for this so you don't need to force-fit a hull into a storage unit.
Outboard motors → In-Unit Storage
Outboards ideally live indoors — out of salt air, UV, and prying eyes. A 3×3 unit fits one or two outboards on stands plus spare props and cowls.
Kayaks & SUPs → In-Unit Storage
UV destroys kayak and SUP hulls over time. Indoor storage extends board life by years and keeps paddles, leashes, and wetsuits dry.
Marine gear, tackle, electronics → In-Unit Storage
Fishing rods, reels, tackle, navigation electronics, VHF radios, life jackets, wetsuits, ropes, and sails. Keep them clean, dry, and organised between trips.
Jet skis → Shaded Parking Bay or In-Unit
Jet skis on trailers fit in our shaded parking bays (R1,190/mo) or enclosed in an in-unit vehicle bay (R1,500/mo) if you want full protection.
Why Store Your Boat Off-Site?
- Free up your driveway or garage. Reclaim the space a boat trailer eats up at home.
- Body-corporate / HOA compliance. Many complexes don't allow boats parked on common property.
- Better security than residential. 24/7 on-site guards beat a padlocked garage or street parking.
- Insurance requirements. Some marine insurers offer better premiums when boats are stored in a guarded facility.
- Protected from weather. Overhead cover in the yard + indoor storage for sensitive gear.
Security Across Boat Yard & Units
- 24/7 on-site armed guards
- HD CCTV surveillance across yard and units
- Controlled entry gates
- Perimeter fencing around the full facility
- In-unit storage: your own padlock, your own key — no one else, including staff, has access
What You Need to Drop Off
We keep paperwork minimal:
- Your ID

We do not require proof of address, boat registration, spare keys, or insurance certificates.

Boat Storage FAQs
Can a normal-sized boat fit inside a storage unit?
Most boats on trailers are too long and too tall to fit inside our standard 6×6 storage unit. That's exactly why we run the covered boat yard at R1,500/month — it solves the problem properly rather than forcing a compromise.
For context: a typical ski boat on a trailer is 5.5–7m long and 2.5m+ tall including the outboard. A 6×6m unit is only 6m deep with approximately 3m of internal height, and the door opening is narrower than the unit itself. Every year someone tries to squeeze a boat in; it almost never works. Trailered-vessel dimensions and transport guidance are published by the South African Maritime Safety Authority.[1]
How much does boat storage cost in Cape Town?
StorageMania's covered boat yard is R1,500 per month including VAT. Marine equipment (outboards, kayaks, SUPs, tackle) in a 3×3m indoor unit is R1,490/month. Many boat owners use both — yard for the boat, unit for the gear.
Does the covered yard protect against sun and rain?
Yes — the yard has overhead cover that shields boats from direct sun and rain. It's not a fully enclosed shed, so you should still use a fitted boat cover for long-term storage, especially for canvas, upholstery, and electronics.
What if my boat is on a tandem-axle trailer?
No problem — the yard is designed to accommodate single-axle, tandem-axle, and tri-axle trailers. Just send us the trailer's overall length and we'll confirm fit before you drop off.
Can I launch the boat from the yard?
No — StorageMania is a storage facility, not a launch site. You hook up your trailer and tow to your preferred slipway. We're well-positioned relative to Cape Town slipways and major roads, which keeps the trip short.
Can I work on the boat at the facility?
Light maintenance (checking lines, topping up fuel tanks, cleaning the hull) is fine. Engine work, welding, painting, or any activity creating fluids, fumes, or debris is not permitted on-site. Use a proper marine workshop for repair work.
Do I need marine insurance?
Marine insurance is your responsibility. Most boat policies cover vessels in a guarded storage facility — some insurers offer better rates when the boat isn't parked at a private residence. Check your policy wording. Guidance on marine-insurance best practice in South Africa is published by the South African Insurance Association.[2]
