If a car, bakkie, trailer, or motorbike is taking up your driveway, your garage, or space you could be using for something better, secure vehicle storage is a simple fix. StorageMania in Philippi Industria offers three tiers of vehicle storage — all under the same 24/7 guards and HD CCTV as our self-storage units.
Our Three Vehicle Storage Options
What Fits Where
Cars & Bakkies
Any standard passenger car, double-cab bakkie, SUV, or light commercial vehicle fits comfortably in our open or shaded bays. If you're storing a daily-driver or a spare vehicle, open bay is usually the right call. If it's a second car or you're going away for a few months, shaded bay keeps the paintwork happy — the Automobile Association of South Africa recommends shaded or enclosed storage for vehicles left stationary for extended periods, particularly in high-UV coastal regions.[2]
Classic & Show Cars
In-unit vehicle storage is where we recommend you put anything valuable. The car drives straight into a 6×6 (or 3×6 for smaller vehicles) enclosed storage unit, you lock it with your own padlock, and no one — including our staff — has access until you're back. Popular for classics, show cars, project cars, and customer collections we hold over long travel periods.
Motorbikes
Motorbikes can go in any option, but most customers choose in-unit storage because a 3×3 unit easily fits a bike plus gear, stands, and covers — at the same R1,500/month as an in-unit car. Shaded bay works too if you just need a safe spot between rides.
Trailers, Jet Skis & Utility Trailers
Standard luggage trailers, jet ski trailers, box trailers, and flatbed trailers all fit in open or shaded bays. Drop it off, take the number plate if you like, collect whenever you need it.
Caravans
Most caravans are too long and too tall to fit inside a 6×6 storage unit, so we point caravan owners at our open or shaded parking bays instead. We'll confirm fit once you send us the caravan's length and height.
Normal-sized boats on trailers generally won't fit in an enclosed storage unit. We have a dedicated covered boat yard for that — see our boat storage page for details and pricing.
How It's Secured
Vehicle storage at StorageMania uses the exact same security as our indoor units:
- 24/7 on-site security guards — real humans, not just cameras
- HD CCTV surveillance across the entire property, including parking bays
- Controlled entry gates — no drive-through traffic
- Perimeter fencing around the full facility
- Philippi Industria location — a high-activity industrial precinct next to SPAR and Pick n Pay distribution centres. Vehicle-crime statistics for Cape Town precincts are published quarterly by the South African Police Service.[1] More context on our FAQ page.
What You Need to Drop Off a Vehicle
Less than you'd think. We keep paperwork minimal:
- Your ID
- First month's payment plus refundable deposit
- Your own padlock (for in-unit storage only — open/shaded bays don't need one)
We do not require: spare keys, proof of address, vehicle registration papers, insurance certificates, or roadworthy docs. You drop off, we tag the bay/unit to your name, and you drive away.
Access Hours
You can collect or return your vehicle 7 days a week during facility hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7am – 6pm
- Saturday: 7am – 5pm
- Sunday: 7am – 12pm
No booking required — just show up and drive in.
Vehicle Storage FAQs
What's the difference between open, shaded, and in-unit storage?
Open is a secure outdoor bay under guarded surveillance (R990/mo). Shaded adds overhead cover protecting against sun and rain (R1,190/mo). In-unit is a fully enclosed storage unit the vehicle drives into, locked with your own padlock (R1,500/mo) — recommended for classic cars, show cars, and bikes.
What vehicle sizes fit?
Standard cars, bakkies (including double-cabs), motorbikes, small trailers, and jet ski trailers all fit in our open or shaded bays. In-unit vehicle storage fits vehicles up to approximately 5.8m long.
Larger caravans and boats typically don't fit inside a 6×6 unit — they should use our parking bays or covered boat yard instead. If you're not sure whether your vehicle fits, just send us dimensions on WhatsApp.
Do I need to bring vehicle papers or proof of address?
No. We only need your ID, first month's payment plus refundable deposit, and — for in-unit storage — your own padlock. No vehicle registration, no proof of address, no spare keys, no insurance certificate.
Can I access my vehicle anytime?
Yes — 7 days a week during facility hours (Mon–Fri 7am–6pm, Sat 7am–5pm, Sun 7am–12pm). No appointment required, no access fees.
What if my vehicle won't start when I come to collect it?
If your vehicle has been sitting for a while, a flat battery is common. Our staff can help you jump-start, and we're happy to recommend nearby mobile mechanics if you need a battery replacement or other assistance. Please note: StorageMania does not offer a tow service.
Do I need insurance on my stored vehicle?
Vehicle insurance is your responsibility. Most comprehensive motor policies cover vehicles in secure storage — check with your insurer. We don't bundle compulsory insurance into our monthly rate, so you're free to arrange cover the way that works for you.
Can I store a project car that's not running?
Yes — non-running vehicles are welcome in in-unit storage. As long as the vehicle can be pushed or winched into the unit at drop-off, we'll make it work.
